Name That Tune traveled back to 1986 this morning with Wang Chung and “Everybody Have Fun Tonight.”
The song can be found on the band’s album “Mosaic” and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” was originally written as a ballad and was recorded around Christmas time; the song had all sorts of sleigh bells and other Christmas-ee type sounds in it. After a producer from Vienna by the name of Peter Wolf heard the song, he suggested it be re-written as a dance hit and the rest is history. “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” has been used in many movies and television shows over the years (most memorably) in the “Cheers” episode where Frasier is getting ready for his bachelor party.
