It’s Throwback Thursday!
What happened on this day in music history; that’s what we’re taking a look at today. And there’s a whole lot, so get ready!
First of all, in 1968, the Beatles, working at Abbey Road studios, recorded Cry Baby Cry and Helter Skelter. One take of Helter Skelter lasted 27′ 11”, the longest Beatle recording ever.

Nest, on this day in 1978, Def Leppard made their live debut at Westfield School, Sheffield, England in front of 150 students. No footage of that show exists. But we did find this.

Skipping forward to 1984, Prince was at perhaps the apex of his career, having just released Let’s Go Crazy/Erotic City, becoming his second #1 hit. The lyrically controversial B-side is a bit less nuanced.
In April, the Purple One released a remake. And he sounds great, naturally.

Moving forward a little to 1988, Nico died after suffering a minor heart attack while riding a bicycle on holiday with her son in Ibiza. The German born singer-songwriter and keyboard player with Velvet Underground had also worked as a fashion model and actress.

Finally, on this day in 1998, Beastie Boys released their fifth studio album Hello Nasty, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart. The album took home two awards at the 1999 Grammys, in the categories of Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for Intergalactic.
