1 dead, 2 hurt in separate North Side incidents

COLUMBUS – One man is dead and two others injured after separate incidents a few blocks apart north of downtown Columbus.

Columbus police say they are looking for two men and a woman in connection with an apparent deadly shooting in the 900 block of N. 4th Street early Monday morning, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.

Officers responding to a report from a passerby that a dead man was lying near dumpsters in the rear parking lot of a business at 4:17 a.m. found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Marable said.

Surveillance video shows the victim and another man walking back to the dumpster near the alley between N. 4th Street and Hamlet Street at approximately 2:24 a.m., where they begin fighting, Marable said.

While the two men are fighting, another man runs into view from Hamlet Street and reaches into the front pocket of his shorts before joining the fight.

At the same time, Marable says a woman runs southeast across the parking lot from Hamlet Street.

After reaching the dumpster, all three almost immediately flee, the woman and one man run south from the scene while the other man flees southbound on Hamlet Street, Marable said.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
