16-year-old facing murder charge after teen shooting victim dies

COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old is now facing murder charges after another teen he’s accused of shooting four days earlier died in the hospital.

Police have upgraded the charge of felonious assault against Marshawn Byrd to murder after Keshawn Watson, 15, died, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.

Watson was shot in the head in the 2900 block of Sandridge Avenue just after midnight on March 12 and at 11:43 a.m. Thursday, Piliya said.

The investigation was transferred to the Homicide Unit and the charges against the suspect were amended.
