COLUMBUS – Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the Columbus police “DUI Interceptor” hits the city’s streets Wednesday.
The mobile breath testing vehicle can process suspected DUI drivers on the spot, eliminating the need for officers to transport an impaired driver to a police facility to conduct a breath test.
The division hired Ohio-based Bolder & Co. Creative Studios to develop stylized, visually engaging “superhero” graphics and other materials to promote the name and message “Going out tonight? So are we.”
The goal was to raise awareness and state the division’s goal to remove impaired drivers from the road.
“Our aim is always to promote safe, sober driving. The publicity around this program and the visibility of the vehicle are meant to make people think twice about driving after they’ve been drinking, knowing that if they do drive impaired, they will be charged,” Sgt. Adam Barton from the Division of Police OVI Countermeasures Unit said.
The vehicle was funded through a grant. The Division has also established partnerships with local ride services and will share that information on DUI Interceptor promotional materials.
