DeWine signs budget with vetoes

COLUMBUS – Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio’s new two-year operating budget bill into law early Tuesday.

Lawmakers gave final approval to the $86.1 billion spending plan for the 2024 and 2025 fiscal years on Friday.

“This budget helps make Ohio the heart of opportunity for everyone,” DeWine said in a statement.

The budget includes almost $3 billion in income tax cuts, funding for universal school vouchers and hundreds of other measures.

DeWine issued 44 line-item vetoes, including a provision prohibiting local governments from regulating the sale of tobacco and vaping products.

He also struck out a proposal to expand the state’s sales tax holiday, leaving it up to state and county officials to determine the length of future holidays and another that allows college students to refuse to be vaccinated for being overly broad.
