Happy 60th birthday, COSI!

COLUMBUS – The Center of Science and Industry, a Columbus landmark and favorite family destination, celebrates is 60th anniversary Friday with a celebration and keynote address by president and CEO Dr. Frederic Bertley.

The event is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and includes activities and experiences, along with the address from Bertley, who has headed u the institution since 2017.

COSI originated with an advertising executive who visited Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry in 1957 and returned with the idea of creating a similar museum in Columbus.

COSI opened to the public on March 29, 1964, in Memorial Hall and moved to its current location, a 320,000-square-foot facility on the former site of Central High School on the west bank of the Scioto River downtown on November 6, 1999.

COSI has been named the “#1 Science Museum in the Country” by USA Today’s 10Best and welcomes an estimate 660,000 visitors annually.
