OSU opens women’s NCAA tournament play on home floor

COLUMBUS – The Buckeyes are the No. 3 seed in the Seattle region of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and begin play non their home court.

Ohio State (25-7, 12-6 in the Big Ten) as a #3 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament as the full bracket of teams was announced on Sunday night.

The Buckeyes will face No. 14 seed James Madison in the first round at Value City Arena on Saturday. This is the Buckeyes’ 13th time hosting at least one game of the NCAA Tournament.

The First Four games on campus will kick things off and set the final bracket with 68 teams battling it out for the national championship in women’s basketball. The top seeds are South Carolina, Indiana, Stanford and Virginia Tech.

Last season, the Buckeyes made their 12th appearance in the Sweet 16. The Sweet 16 weekend brings a twist this year for the women’s teams: There will be two regional sites instead of four: Greenville, South Carolina, and Seattle each will host eight teams.

The Final Four is in Dallas on March 31 and the championship game is two days later on April 2.

As it happens, the men’s Final Four is a four-hour drive down the road in Houston that same weekend.

After reaching the semifinals of the Big Ten men’s tournament, Ohio State was shut out of the tournament.

Alabama is the overall top seed. Kansas, Houston and Purdue grabbed the other top seeds.

The First Four games in Dayton will kick things off with Sweet 16 games in New York City, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Missouri; and Louisville, Kentucky.
