Name That Tune traveled back to 1979 this morning with “Big Shot” from Billy Joel’s album “52nd Street,” and the song peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is mocking a woman for her intoxicated escapades around town and references cultural fads of the rich and famous at the time. A rumor circulated that “Big Shot” was about a bad date with Mick Jagger’s first wife Bianca, which Joel denied frequently. In 2010, in and interview with Howard Stern, Joel admitted that the song was written after having dinner with Mick and Bianca Jagger. Joel told Stern that while writing the lyrics to “Big Shot,” he was thinking of Mick singing the song to Bianca.
