“Call Me” is the theme song to American Gigolo and was originally intended for Stevie Nicks to peform. Due to the nature of the new contract Stevie had signed with her record label, she was not able to work with the producer, so he turned to Debbie Harry and Blondie. The instrumental track preseted to Harry and the band was titled “Man Machine” and they rewrote the song with the lyrics from the perspective of the Richard Gere character, a male prostitute. “Call me” spent 6 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
