Name That Tune – Bonnie Tyler – Total Eclipse Of The Heart

“Total Eclipse Of The Heart” is from Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 album “Faster Than The Speed Of Night” and spend four weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by Meatloaf’s producer, Jim Steinman, with Meatloaf in mind and for a musical. “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” started out as a vampire ballad called “Vampires In Love” for the musical “Dance of the Vampires” about Nosferatu. Bonnie had seen Meatloaf on tour and expressed interest in working with his producer, whom presented her with a couple of songs she didn’t care for, so, the next day, he had “Total Eclipse” played for her in the studio, and the rest is history. “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” would go on to earn several award nominations, including a Grammy nomination.
