Name That Tune traveled back to 1986 this morning with Cyndi Lauper and the title track to her album “True Colors.” The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Cyndi the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. “True Colors” was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly; Steinberg wrote the song about his mother, and Tom altered the first verse and originally submitted the song to Anne Murray, who passed on recording the tune. The song was then given to Cyndi and the rest is history.
