“Philadelphia Freedom” was first released as a single in 1975 and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song would eventually make it’s way to Elton’s 1977 album “Elton John’s Greatest Hits – Volume 2” and was written by he and Bernie Taupin for friend and tennis player Billie Jean King and her Philadelphia Freedoms professional tennis team.
