Name That Tune time warped back to 1977 this morning with one of my all time faves from Hall and Oates. “Rich Girl” is on the 1977 album “Bigger That The Both Of Us” and peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was the first of six number one singles for the duo and is based on a spoiled heir. Turns out it’s about the ex-boyfriend of Daryl Hall’s girlfriend Sara, Victor Walker. Daryl has said that he couldn’t sing about a “rich boy” and changed the song to “rich girl” because it sounded better. Victor Walker’s family owned Walker Brothers Original Pancake House in Wilmette, Illinois, as well as 15 KFC franchises. Daryl was inspired to write the song after meeting Victor, who knows the song was written about him.
