Name That Tune took a trip to 1980 this morning with “Woman” from John Lennon’s album “Double Fantasy.” The song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was chosen by Lennon as the second single to be released from the album; it was the first single issued after his death in December 1980. John wrote the song as an ode to his wife Yoko Ono and all women. The song came about while John was vacationing in Bermuda and had an epiphany (of sorts) on what women really do for men. In one of his last interviews, John said the song “was the most Beatle like track on “Double Fantasy.”
