Name That Tune – John Mellencamp – Hurts So Good

“Hurts So Good” is from John Mellencamp’s (then John Cougar) 1982 album “American Fool” and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by Mellencamp and his childhood friend George Green, after John uttered the phrase “hurts so good” while they were sparing lines back and forth to each other for a song. The video was filmed in  Medora, Indiana, not far from Mellencamp’s hometown of Seymour, and earned John a Grammy for “Best Rock Vocal Performance, Male” at the 25th Annual Grammy Awards.
