Name That Tune – Prince – 1999

“1999” is the title track from Prince’s 1982 album and peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983 (it’s second release). Written during the Cold War of 1982, this party jam has a different meaning – fear of nuclear armageddon. “1999” was re-released after Prince’s death, making it the 4th separate time the song would enter the Billboard Hot 100 and third different decade. Phil Collins has said he was listening to a lot of Prince during his 80s tour with Genesis, and that “Sussudio” was inspired by the song.
