Name That Tune traveled back to 1987 this morning with Taylor Dayne!
“Tell It To My Heart” is from Taylor’s self titled 1987 album and spent 26 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 7. The video was low budget and features two back-up dancers on either side of Taylor against a white back drop. Years later the video served as the prototype for Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” video.
When Taylor recorded the demo to “Tell It To My Heart”, she was still going by the name Leslie Wunderman; she didn’t change her name until she signed her contract with her record label two years later. Taylor was nominated for the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance Grammy and lost to Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.”
