“Rock The Casbah” is from The Clash’s 1982 album “Combat Rock” and peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot !00. Written by drummer Topper Headon, he presented the song to the rest of the band with sappy lyrics about missing his girlfriend. The band quickly shot the lyrics down and went to work on a new set of lyrics that would end up being about the ban on Western music in Iran after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
